Background:

When Hyoyeon's mother had visited South Korea for the first time, she did not expect to enjoy the agricultural lifestyle as much as she did. She had spent the previous five or so years backpacking through Europe and Asia - after her parents had given her a generous amount of money as a graduation gift - and though she knew she would always return home someday, she had not known that home would be in Pyeonghwa Village.

Soon her mother had settled in the village, and even though she looked different from her neighbors and did not speak their language very well, she found comfort in her new home. She had also found herself repeatedly being directed to a certain man who lived five houses away, for apparently he had been the only one who at least knew basic English.

They hit it off right away, casting nets around and throwing bits of grass at each other, and in their happy union a healthy baby girl was born.

As Hyoyeon got older, she proved to have not only inherited her mother's blonde hair, but her adventurousness as well. At six, the little girl had hopped after a brown rabbit into the woods, and returned four hours later to her worried parents with a family of possums hanging from her arm. At ten, she had visited each and every house in the village and resorted to spending her nights lying on the hill by their house, dreaming of exploring the skies.

It was a mutual agreement between the couple to homeschool Hyoyeon. Her mother taught her English and basic math, while her father taught her Korean and horticulture. Their daughter demonstrated an aptitude for the latter by growing a handful of bean sprouts within the first hour of her lesson, much to the pair's confusion.

For a while her parents would shrug off incidents like that, and refer to them as "God's little miracles". That was, however, before a certain sunny morning when a giggly Hyoyeon touched several evening primroses, and the flowers began blooming one by one. They decided from then on that their little offspring was anything but ordinary, and had simply exclaimed a collective "Oh!" when the letter from Shin Mabeob Academy came.

It took the Hat almost half an hour to sort Hyoyeon into Ravenclaw. This was because she had traits fit for every House - except for Slytherin, which the Hat insisted was no place for a girl like her - and she was genuinely interested in all four Houses. She then spent her first year mingling with students from other Houses as well as her own, and as a result had a hard time remembering who was from which.

During a quidditch match in her second year, Hyoyeon thought that trying to catch the Snitch reminded her of the little clam-collecting competitions she had with her father, and the nostalgic thought grew into a wish to become Ravenclaw's new Seeker. That wish came true the following year, when she had successfully caught the Snitch in record time during tryouts.

A few years passed and Hyoyeon could not figure out what she liked most about being a witch in the academy - the Herbology lessons, the Astronomy lessons, playing Quidditch, or the great number of pranks she could make with magic. She knew what she liked least though - Potions and History of Magic - and knew her dislike for the subjects would show on her O.W.L. results.

Sure enough, she received lower grades for her two weakest subjects, but her parents were still proud of her nonetheless. As she stepped into the academy for her fifth year, Hyoyeon reflected on the amount of support she could find in both the comfortable family cottage, and the grand castle-like campus that was now her second home.

Hyoyeon is, generally, a happy person. She grew up in a loving home, and is referred to as Pyeonghwa's Sweetheart at the village. She has no trouble making friends in the academy, either, and often tries to be the light in every room. This, however, means that it's hard for her to empathize with others' problems and might not be the best person to talk to unless they need a dash of optimism.

Although Pyeonghwa is one of the richer villages and her maternal grandparents are worth more than the village itself, Hyoyeon stays a humble person. She keeps her family's wealth on the downlow and does not want for materialistic things. Instead, she craves for adventure and has an unquenchable thirst for knowledge - much like her mother.

She is only slightly embarrassed about being a Hatstall, and constantly wonders what her life would be like if she had been sorted into Gryffindor or Hufflepuff instead (since the Hat had specifically said she wasn't fit for Slytherin). She may or may not have tried to sneak into the other common rooms in her earlier years.

If she isn't in uniform she can be spotted wearing a flowy dress, which would not stop her from climbing trees or practising Quidditch with her friends. She believes that as long as there's something fun to do, there is no need to waste time by changing.

Hyoyeon plans on following her mother's footsteps in backpacking to other countries (though she will be visiting hidden towns for magic folk as well) and helping her father with the farms until she knows he can retire. As for her career plans, she is thinking of becoming a Herbology or Astronomy professor, but is still looking for other options.
